Workbench · sound, image and motion
Pictures that move to music, and instruments for making it.
Creative work, and how it gets made. Nothing here is finished yet, so this is the bench, not the gallery.

A creature that walks to the hi-hats
Can every instrument in a track move its own part of a body, and can you see which one is playing?
Each note written in Live becomes motion in Blender: the kick slams the body down, every hi-hat moves one leg, the bass swings the tail. An overlay draws a line from each moving part to its instrument and lights it on every note.

Compose
Ableton LiveOne MIDI track per part of the body: drums, bass, lead and effects.
- 02
Read the notes
MCPThe notes are read back from Live, not exported: time, pitch and velocity for each.
- 03
Bake the motion
Blender, Python155 notes become keyframes on 576 frames, every part on its own curve.
- 04
Render
Eevee1080p at 30 fps, 1.6 seconds a frame on a home GPU.
- 05
Overlay
PythonAn analysis layer drawn over the frames, one panel and one line per instrument.

| Kick | Thorax | slams the body down |
|---|---|---|
| Snare | Inner jaw | strikes out |
| Hi-hats | Six legs | one step per hit |
| Bass | Tail | sways while the note is held |
| Lead | Dorsal tubes | extend and glow |
| FX | Head | rises and scans |
A proof of concept. The motion works: every part moves on its own instrument, within a few milliseconds of the note.
The creature is a stand-in built from simple shapes, and it is being replaced. The video stays off this page until it looks the way it should.

An instrument for the browser, for people who have never written code and for sound designers after strange timbres.
